What is Swim America
SwimAmerica is not your average swim lessons! SwimAmerica is a SWIMMING SCHOOL designed around specific progressive swimming psychomotor learning steps that have been thoroughly researched and adjusted to annual swimming biomechanical advancements . Incorporated into SwimAmerica is the attention to DAILY assessment, progression and appropriate advancement, positive reinforcement and reward program, daily parental involvement from the spectator area and highly trained and credentialed aquatic educators!

Since 1988, SwimAmerica has grown over 630 Nationally Credentialed Program Directors, created over 2000 programs in the United States with over three million people having participated in SwimAmerica Schools each year! SwimAmerica is the fastest growing aquatics program in the world today and NOW it has arrived in the great state of West Virginia at the Tri-County YMCA, state-of-the-art Toyota Aquatic Center which is home to the nationally recognized USA Swimming and YMCA League Wild Waves Swimming Program.

Our Aquatics Educators
With many other swim lessons, your instructor is most likely a teenager that may have some swimming experience but has never been educated in teaching method, stroke correctional cues, proper positive reinforcement, objective writing and assessment linked to those particular objectives. Most instructors at other lesson programs simply do what was done to them in hope that the child will eventually “catch on”! Those instructors, though they have good intention, cannot answer the question from a parent “Why are you doing this?” As a parent of a child or children in SwimAmerica, you can be assured that you instructor has completed the most rigorous cognitive, psychomotor and affective training pertaining to swimming instruction. In fact, currently, 70% of our instructors hold Bachelor Degrees along with their aquatic expertise and SwimAmerica Specific training. SwimAmerica mandates a complete course taught by the program director requiring a national certification examination passing grade of 85% before the instructors are allowed to teach. SwimAmerica instructors and programs require in-service training and continual education each week! SwimAmerica takes great pride in their quality control and the results obtained by this most professional approach and investment in aquatic educators.

The Responsibility of SwimAmerica
It is the responsibility of SwimAmerica to provide swimming education that results in the student being able to swim correctly and remain safe while doing so, participate in swimming as a means of maintaining and improving health and fitness, and to give the student an opportunity to eventually participate on USA Swimming and YMCA Swimming Teams.

How our SwimAmerica Swimming School Operates
SwimAmerica is taught in an objective driven, station oriented style. Your child will learn and perform a specific collection of swimming skills at a particular station before being moved to the next learning station. Stations are progressive in nature and progress from station 1 to station 10. The Program Director will perform all final evaluations that result in a swimmer progressing to the next station.

One of the many advantages of SwimAmerica is your child’s ability to progress to a new and more challenging set of learning objectives when they are ready, not when the “next set of lessons begins”. Unlike other lesson programs, your child will not be forced to sit through the remaining lessons of a session bored and unmotivated when he or she has completed all of the objectives to a satisfactory level. Our swimmers are evaluated DAILY and are progressed immediately once all objectives have been met. This method has demonstrated a more involved swimmer in the learning process and faster achievement of goals due to the increased motivation and continual challenge.

At the Tri-County YMCA, we know you work hard for your money and we know you have great interest in your child receiving the best quality and quantity of instruction for your dollar. When you register for SwimAmerica you will be given 10 lessons and you will choose a specific time slot for your child. You simply show up at your chosen time on the evenings that SwimAmerica School is offered. You come as often as YOU wish. You will not need to re-register until you have completed ALL of your 10 lessons. SwimAmerica at the Tri-County YMCA understands your busy schedule and wishes to accommodate families with flexibility as well as quality and quantity for their money.

SwimAmerica Schedule
When you register for SwimAmerica you will need to identify the time that best fits your schedule. Once you choose that time, that is the time you arrive for all of your SwimAmerica Lessons.
