Beginner
These classes are low to moderate in intensity with moves broken down and explained.
Intermediate
These classes are more moderate in intensity with more options to increase or decrease personal intensity and more combinations of moves.
Advanced
These classes are high intensity with a wide variety of combinations and moves.
Simply Seniors: These are low intensity classes at a slower pace with options designed for the older adult. For all group fitness classes, proper athletic attire is required. Youth participation is at the discretion of the instructor with a parent in the class. Equipment provided is on a first come, first serve basis. The instructor may ask participants to return or give up equipment if not properly participating in class. Any classes having fewer than 10 participants on a regular basis are subject to cancellation.
All classes are conducted by Nationally Certified Instructor.

GROUP FITNESS CLASS CANCELLATION/POSTPONEMENT POLICY:
When school is closed due to inclement weather, only the 5:40 a.m. class will be held at the discretion of the instructor. Evening classes will be determined by the weather.
When school is on a one hour delay, only classes held after 9:30 a.m. will be held. If the delay is longer than one hour, no morning classes will be held. Early morning classes may be held at the discretion of the instructor.
Please remember to sign in for classes and provide a phone number where you can be reached during the session.
If your group or organization is interested in bringing a Group Fitness Class to your facility or workplace please contact our Group Fitness Coordinator at 304-757-0016.
Members may rent a locker at anytime throughout the year. Members pay a pro-rated rate for the remainder of the year fro the point they start their locker rental. Large lockers are $7.00 per month and small lockers are $5.00 per month. Locker numbers 37 – 72 are eligible for rental, while numbers 1 -36 are for day use only. Members must bring their own locks. See the Member Services Desk for more information.

Massage
The Tri-County YMCA offers Massage Therapy in 30 or 60 minute sessions by appointment only.
Swedish Massage - Sometimes called relaxation massage, Swedish massage is a fluid and relaxing form of massage therapy. Oil or lotion is used in the massage, and techniques focus on increasing circulation, pumping wastes out of muscle tissue, and increasing joint range of motion.
Deep Tissue Massage - A form of massage therapy focused on the release of muscle tension and trigger points. Deep tissue massage can be used to release patterns of tension which cause chronic pain such as headaches.
Thai Yoga Massage - A form of massage from Thailand in which the practitioner uses rhythmic rocking movements to massage along energy lines and move the client through yoga postures. Thai yoga massage increases flexibility and mobility of the joints, releases muscle tension, and increases the flow of energy.

Beginners Tai Chi for Arthritis
Tai Chi for Arthritis is a gentle form of exercise with slow, fluid movements designed to:
•Help increase flexibility
•Increase muscle strength and fitness
•Facilitate circulation of blood throughout muscles, tendons and joints to aid the healing process
•Promote correct body posture
•Reduce pain and stiffness
•Improve relaxation
•Integrate mind and body
While this form is designed to be especially gentle for arthritis suffers, anyone may benefit from these classes and all are welcome.

Cardio Kickboxing Boxing and martial arts moves combined with training techniques and conditioning drills using body bar, weights, steps and other equipment. High Intensity Options! Intermediate and Advanced. Prepare to work hard and monitor your pace!
F.I.T. (Fun Intense Training) Drills, Drills, Drills! Check out this fast, fun and challenging exercise class that will work you from head to toe with cardio drills, then resistance. You get it all in this fun, challenging class. There are no fancy steps so it’s easy to follow. This is a great workout for guys & gals of all ages because you pick your own intensity level!
Hi-Lo This class is full of simple moves and large movements to get your heart pumping. High impact or low impact – the choice is yours! We use the whole gym to keep you moving and grooving! Have fun and work at your own pace.
Pilates Get lean, long & strong in this great mat class. Focus is on core (abs & back) strengthening through fluid & continuous movements, with special attention to alignment & breath control. You’ll get solid abdominal and back work and build lean, strong upper & lower body muscles, too. Keep up wit this class and you will see results!
Sweat Shop You’ll get Kickboxing, Boot Camp and more with a combination of intervals, kicking, boxing, resistance and cardio challenges. All limbs are in constant motion for most of the class! The variety, great music and class enthusiasm will motivate you to take your fitness to a new level. This class is great for men and women. Be prepared to work hard! This is a moderate to high intensity class and you are strongly encouraged to adjust your personal intensity level as needed.
Step Love to step? Work up a sweat on, off and around the bench. Our choreography is easy to follow and will really get your heart pumping. BONUS: you’ll get a resistance workout, abs and stretching too! This is another great all-in-one class!
Yoga Clear your mind, increase your flexibility and challenge your body with yoga poses and relaxation techniques. Yoga mats are recommended for all yoga classes. Classes emphasize breathing postures and relaxation techniques for the total well being of the body and mind.
SilverSneakers SilverSneakers I-Muscular Endurance/Range of Motion. Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball are offered for resistance and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.
Guts & Butts Thirty minutes of intense abdominal training and glute work. Now both men and women can get those six pack abs and firm derriere.
A.B.C’s Thirty minutes of intense abdominal training plus chest and back strengthening. Six pack abs and strong chest and back will enhance anyone’s physique.
Zumba Zumba is a combination of Latin dance and exercise creating a dynamic, exciting, effective fitness system! The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. This is a total body, fat burning workout. It is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps.
Fitness Assessments
Before your first orientation you may wish to schedule an appointment for a fitness assessment. Appointments last approximately 30 minutes. Assessment areas include weight, body composition, cardio respiratory endurance, muscular strength and flexibility. Fitness Assessments are available by appointment only. It is recommended that participants have an assessment every 4 – 6 months to monitor progress. See Wellness Director for further details.

Wellness Center
Come see the Tri-County YMCA’s Wellness Center, which has enabled us to add some new fitness equipment to our current selection of selectorized machines, free weights, dumbbells and cardiovascular equipment. We feature various pieces of equipment from Cybex, Life Fitness, Quinton & Magnum Fitness Equipment.
Orientations
Our wellness staff will introduce you to our equipment through three (3), free, one-on-one instructional orientations. Your first and second appointments will guide you through the selectorized weight circuit. The third orientation, which is optional, may be used to review the circuit or learn some various free weight exercises. ALL ORIENTATIONS MUST BE SCHEDULED.
PEIA Weight Management Program
It takes discipline, support and a willingness to change your lifestyle for good. Even a modest weight loss of 10% can improve your blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels. It can make activities of daily living easier like walking, tying your shoe laces, carrying groceries, playing with the kids, sleeping well at night and lessening joint pain.
To help you lose weight and improve your health, PEIA offers a weight management program at approved sites throughout West Virginia, one of which is the Tri-County YMCA. To participate you must:
•Have PEIA Preferred Provider Plan as your primary coverage
•Body Mass Index (BMI) or 30 or greater; or
•Have a BMI of 25 or greater with a related medical condition like heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes or metabolic syndrome
•Must be ready to make permanent lifestyle changes; and
•Must have the approval from your physician or nurse practitioner.

SilverSneakers
The SilverSneakers Fitness Program is the nation’s leading exercise program designed exclusively for older adults. Each eligible health plan member is entitled to a free basic membership at participating fitness centers. The basic membership includes the SilverSneakers Class in addition to the use of other amenities (such as cardio and weight training equipment, swimming pools, aerobics classes, etc.). SilverSneakers members must pay for services that other basic members would pay for separately.
SilverSneakers members are not required to take the class. The class does, however, offer challenges to more advance exercisers by allowing participants to choose (increase) the amount of weight and resistance they use. The Fitness Center Staff does offer three (3) free orientations to the Fitness Center for new members joining the Tri-County YMCA, by appointment only.
The SilverSneakers Fitness Program accepts the following insurance plans: Humana Gold Choice, Freedom Blue, Security Blue and Blue Cross/Blue Shield Medifil Plan F.
Bring your insurance card to the Tri-County YMCA. You will be asked to complete an enrollment packet to determine health status and whether you need to complete a Release for Activity before exercising. If you do not need a release, you can begin exercising right away. If a release is needed, they you must obtain a Release for Activity Form (provided by the Tri-County YMCA) and return it to the Member Services Staff signed by your physician or other health care professional. After the fitness center receives your physician’s approval, you can begin the program.
If you have any questions about your Health Plan, you will need to call your Health Plan’s customer service phone number (usually on the back of your Health Plan Card). If you would like to join a Health Plan that is providing SilverSneakers at the Tri-County YMCA, you will need to call the Participating Health Plan’s Customer Service phone number.
Marshall University Physical Education Classes
Marshall University’s Teays Valley Regional Center, in conjunction with the Tri-County YMCA, will be offering several physical education classes for college credit during the Fall 2008 semester.

Youth Strength Training
This class is to instruct youth in the proper use of cardio and selectorized strength equipment. Members must be 14 years of age to use the Fitness Center. This class allows 12 and 13 year old members access to the Fitness Center upon successful completion. Participants who successfully complete the course will be issued a card that will be on file at the Member Services Desk. This class does not provide instruction in free weight equipment. Youth Strength Training graduates do not have access to the free weight are without the direct supervision of a parent or guardian. Class size is limited to 6 participants.

Senior FitStart
Senior FitStart is an exercise program designed for seniors held at the John Henson Senior Center in Hurricane. The class consists of a warm up and stretching, gentle easy-to-follow aerobic steps, a cool down and stretch to help ease arthritis pain, muscle strengthening exercises, balance exercises and relaxation. Come get fit, while listening to some great music and meet new friends.

Biodynamic Body Composition Testing
This is one of the quickest methods of measuring lean body mass. The accuracy rate is within 1.5% of hydrostatic (underwater) testing. Please inquire with the Wellness Center Staff. Not recommended for pregnant woman or people with pacemakers.
