Parent-Child Swim Lessons
These classes are water acclimation only. No submersion.
Shrimps: 6-8 months of age; child must be able to control head and sit with support from hands.
Kippers: 9-12 months of age; child can sit without hand support and stand with support from hands.
Inias: 13-18 months; child can stand without support and walk with our without support or aid.
Perch: 19-36 months; child can run and jump.
Pre-School Lessons
Pike/Eel: 3 years - Kindergarten Beginner - Children must be fully potty trained and child and parent must be able to separate comfortable. No swim diapers are allowed.
Ray/Starfish: 3 years – Kindergarten Advanced - Children must be able to submerge themselves willingly and tread/swim water with or without an instructional flotation device.
Youth Swim Lessons
Polliwog: This is for the beginning school age swimmer. Students will learn basic water adjustment as well as paddle stroke on their front, back and side while wearing an instructional flotation device.
Guppy: Students will learn to jump in deep water and will learn the front paddle stroke using alternating arm movements and rhythmic breathing for 25 yards. Students will also learn back and side alternating paddle strokes. Students will swim varying distances while wearing an instructional flotation device as well as without. Students must complete Polliwog before taking Guppy.
Minnow: This class introduces swimmers to paddle strokes with rotary breathing as well as refining the back paddle stroke. New strokes such as the side stroke, elementary backstroke and breaststroke for 25 yards will be introduced and in order to register students must have successfully completed Guppy before taking Minnow.
Fish: Students in Fish will refine the following strokes for a distance of 50 yards: crawl stroke, backstroke, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, and sidestroke. Butterfly stroke will be introduced at this level and participants must have finished Minnow before taking Fish.
Flying Fish: Students will refine the crawl stroke, backstroke, breaststroke and elementary backstroke and sidestroke for 100 yards. Butterfly will be swam for 50 yards and the lifesaving stroke will be introduced. Participants at this level must have finished Fish before taking Flying Fish.
Shark: The Shark level is excellent preparation for lifeguarding. Students will refine all strokes for 100 yards and students will be introduced to the inverted breaststroke, over-arm sidestroke, trudgeon crawl and the individual medley.
Porpoise: The Porpoise Level is an advanced level instruction for lifeguard training preparation, endurance and competitive stroke techniques, introduction to synchronized swimming and water polo maneuvers. Participants will also develop leaderships skills by serving as instructor aides as well as Junior Lifeguards.

Water Aerobics
We are proud to offer a class that is versatile, weightless, intense and fun for our members and guests. This workout is one hour long and emphasizes flexibility, strength, and cardiovascular benefit. This class has little impact on joints so come and join the fun!

Aqua Burn/Deep Water Exercises
Individuals will follow the lead of an instructor and use a flotation device to experience the benefits of aerobic exercise without the impact. You don’t need to be a great swimmer to participate but you do need to be comfortable in deep water.

Scuba Diving
Learn what Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus means and learn the skills necessary to be a safe open water diver. Certification will take place with practice and perfection of skills in our pool as well as classroom work and study guides. Come check out what could become a passion of a lifetime! Dive Tech and Sports will provide certification and necessary equipment but class size is limited.

Junior Lifeguard
The Junior Lifeguard program will help develop lifeguard skills, character and stamina in water. These individuals will be given the opportunity to shadow lifeguards and be swim instructor aides. Participants will go through the YASA Program which is YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant certification. Participants who are 14 years of age and older will receive their certification upon successful completion of the class.

Lifeguard Class
The Tri County YMCA Lifeguard course will cover all requirements that are necessary to become a lifeguard. The curriculum includes water rescue techniques, scanning and observation, first aid, oxygen administration and CPR. All participants must be 16 years of age prior to the last day of class. Inquire at the Aquatic Office for more information.
